Position: Mental Health Associate - NSG Support- SRN Float Pool - Per Diem - Night Shift

Overview

The Mental Health Associate is a nursing caregiver who works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse to provide patient care in accordance with each patient s IPOC (interdisciplinary plan of care), hospital policies and procedures and unit/program guidelines.

The ideal candidate for this role has experience working within the nursing assistant space. This includes proficiency in patient care, familiarity with medical protocols, and the ability to work effectively in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities
  • What You Will Do:

    Support patient care under supervision of the RN and adhere to IPOC and unit guidelines.
  • Essential Functions:
    • Basic nursing and mental health:
      Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of the signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders; assists RN with admissions, transfers and discharges; considers age, cultural, psychosocial and physical needs; assists with activities of daily living; performs other patient care tasks (e.g., urine specimen collection, EKGs); observes and reports significant changes in patient behavior, mental status and condition.
    • Communication and documentation of care:
      Maintains accurate data collection and documentation; keeps ongoing communication with the responsible RN; provides complete reports at shift end; documents observed patient data per guidelines.
    • Customer service:
      Provides patient-centered care; responds to patient, family and visitor requests; maintains professional boundaries; conducts psycho educational groups, activity groups and community meetings; assists in greeting and monitoring visitors.
    • General support:
      Answers unit telephones, inventories and stocks supplies, coordinates maintenance of equipment and unit services, maintains forms and materials, assists nurses with physician contact when needed, keeps the nursing station organized, provides additional support as assigned (including mail distribution and reporting), orients and mentors new staff, serves on committees as assigned.
    • Safety:
      Observes and reports unsafe patient behaviors; uses de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques; monitors environment and reports safety hazards; uses safe body mechanics.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to speak, write and comprehend medical terminology in English.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of the bio-psycho-social needs of psychiatric patients.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide basic nursing and mental health care to acute psychiatric patients.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
    • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association - REQUIRED
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Some college coursework in Psychology, Sociology, Communication, Nursing, or other health care related fields
    • 1 year of experience working in a treatment setting with patients that have acute or chronic psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders
Hours and Compensation
  • Hours – Includes Shift Start Time, Shift End Time, AWS Hours Requirement, Additional Shift Information, Weekend Requirements, On-Call Required.
  • Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum): $27.830 - $33.390 - $37.400
  • The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
