Surgical Technician - Cardiothoracic

Overview

Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health is seeking a Surgical Technician for the Cardiothoracic OR. The schedule for this role is Evening Shift .

Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health is a 364-bed advanced medical center with services including advanced surgery and cardiac care among others. This position is part of UC San Diego Health's Perioperative Services and is eligible for our benefits package from day one.

Under general direction of the surgical nurse, perform fairly complex surgical technician duties using specialized knowledge from formal training. Provide surgical technician support across several specialty surgical areas, verify specialty equipment and inventory, contact surgeons and supply vendors about equipment, and provide continuing education in-service to staff.

Other duties include maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing cardiothoracic procedures and applying knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various procedures.

Note:

Depending on experience, the selected candidate will be hired at the Sr. Surgical Tech (level
2) or Principal Surgical Tech (level
3).

• Completion of an Accredited Surgical Technologist program or specialized program.
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six months of hire date.
• Minimum of one (1) year of Cardiothoracic Surgical Technician experience (for level
  2).
• Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing cardiothoracic procedures, including competency in at least three of the following: heart/lung transplants, ventricular assist devices, aortic aneurysms, PTE, TAVR, cardiac robotics, or other complex cardiac procedures (for level
  3).
• Proven knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various procedures.
• Abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties of the position.

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• Two years of Cardiac Surgical Technician experience in an OR handling complex cases.

• Must be able to work varied hours and locations based on business needs.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $79,991 - $99,451 (prorated if appointment is less than 100%).

Hourly Equivalent: $38.31 - $47.63.

Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure/certifications, and business needs. The Hiring Pay Scale reflects the budgeted range and may differ based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements.

If employed by the University of California, compliance with the Policy on Vaccination Programs is required. Some roles may require hands-on practice and in-person assessment for life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.).
