Under direct supervision of the Urology nurse manager, Urology nurse supervisor and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, the Medical Assistant performs administrative tasks which require specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within the business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC).
These duties include but are not limited to: all aspects of back office medical assistant duties including equipment management, environmental care functions, cleaning and disinfecting the environment, vital screening, medication review, documentation assistance for the providers, appointment scheduling, patient check-in, authorizations, accurate billing, payment processing, and supply and forms management.
The Medical Assistant position requires knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, universal precautions and proper body mechanics. The role also requires initiative, ability to prioritize demands and ability to work in a team environment, teamwork and a positive attitude. The position also requires qualification to operate scope processor, instrument handling for sterile processing, uroflow, bladder scanner, EKG and other back office medical assistant equipment.
Minimum Qualifications- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
- BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Two (2) years or more of Medical Assistant experience, preferably in a large, complex Healthcare system.
- Demonstrated knowledge and training in patient care, environmental care functions, equipment/supply management and cleaning/disinfecting the environment.
- Proven knowledge of online scheduling, universal precautions, and body mechanics.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize demands and work in a team environment.
- Recent experience in a urology ambulatory care setting with a high procedural volume.
- Experience with EPIC EMR and UCSD Purchasing and Supply systems or relevant systems.
- Previous back office experience.
- Strong computer literacy. Demonstrated proficiency in essential computer operations, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Previous experience as a medical scribe or providing EMR documentation assistance for a Provider.
- Experience with medication and durable medical equipment prior authorizations.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $52,847 - $65,772 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.31 - $31.50
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
