Overview
Under the direction of surgical charge nurse, performs less complicated surgical technician duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training. This position is assigned surgical technician support to surgical areas within UC San Diego Health. Duties also include ordering, stocking, and verification of specialty equipment, supplies, and tracking inventory (type, quantity and expiration dates), contacting surgeons concerning equipment and supply needs for complex cases, communicating with related buyers and vendors and other staff concerning their service, contacting surgical supply companies and their vendors about malfunctioning or broken equipment, and providing continuing education in-service to staff.
Management and processing of hazardous materials, disposable and non-disposable equipment and instruments per protocol and regulations. Performs other related tasks as needed.
- Order, stock, and verify specialty equipment and supplies; track inventory, quantities, and expiration dates.
- Communicate with surgeons, buyers, vendors, and staff regarding equipment and supply needs.
- Contact surgical supply companies about malfunctioning or broken equipment; coordinate service needs.
- Provide continuing education in-service to staff.
- Manage hazardous materials and instruments per protocol and regulations; assist in surgical areas as needed.
- Completion of accredited Surgical Technologist training/institution or equivalent.
- BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six months of hire date.
- Prior Surgical Technician experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, patient experience, and positive attitude.
- One year of Surgical Technician experience in vascular & endovascular surgery cases.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
- Lean Six Sigma and/or project management experience.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs; overtime may be required.

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,447 - $86,381 (prorated if appointment percentage
