Sheriff's Commander-Detentions Option


About the Position:

The Sheriff's Department is currently recruiting for Sheriff's Commander-Detentions Option. This is a career progression and management opportunity for current Sheriff's Captains and Sheriff's Detentions Captains on the San Diego Sheriff's Department force. Under the Detentions Option, the Sheriff's Commander is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the overall activities for one of three major command areas in the Detentions Services Bureau of the Sheriff's Department.

Education and/or Experience:

Detentions Option:

One (1) year of service as a Sheriff's Detentions Captain or a Sheriff's Captain with the County of San Diego; AND, successful completion of the required California P.O.S.T. Management Course or California BSCC-STC Management Course.

NOTE: Positions in this classification must meet employment guidelines and standards established by:

The Commission for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in which Peace Officers as defined in Section 830 of the California Penal Code the provisions of Sections 1029 and 1031 of the California Government Code.

Or, by the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) - Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) program, under the Selection and Training Standards, as contained in Title 15, Sections 100 – 358 of the California Code of Regulations. Positions under this qualification must complete the management course (MACC) by the California BSCC-STC within one year from the date of assignment.

Applicants must be 21 years of age by the time of appointment. A valid Proof of Eligibility in good standing issued by Police Officer Standard Training (POST) and ability to carry a firearm are required and must be maintained throughout your employment as a Sheriff's Commander with the San Diego Sheriff's Office.

    Evaluation:
    The names of qualified candidates will be placed on a12(Twelve) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire. If you are successful in the initial screening process your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
