Land Use Technician II

The County of San Diego announces a career opportunity for a Land Use Technician II in Planning & Development Services (PDS). The role performs para‑professional and technical work to provide information on laws, codes, ordinances and requirements related to the construction and use of structures and land use.

• First set of interviews will take place the week of February 16, 2026.
• Job offer and background process will begin soon after interviews.
• Pre‑employment medical screening approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
• Anticipated start date based on successful completion of medical screening or other agreed date.

• Three (3) years of full‑time paid technical experience in land use, architecture, zoning, planning, building inspection, surveying, construction, engineering, environmental studies or a closely related field.
• Substitute qualification: two (2) years or 50 units of coursework in an accredited U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency in urban planning, geography, building inspection, construction technology, environmental studies, engineering, mathematics or a closely related field can be used to substitute for two (2) years of the experience requirement.

Prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre‑employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

Qualified applicants will be placed on a six‑month eligible list based on scores received during evaluation of employment and supplemental application information.
