About the Position:The Sheriff's Detentions Captain recruitment is a career progression and management opportunity for current Sheriff's Detentions Lieutenants or Sheriff's Lieutenants on the San Diego Sheriff's Department force. The role of the Sheriff's Detentions Captain is significant in that they are responsible for managing a detention facility within the Sheriff's Department. Incumbents are assigned overall responsibility for the operation of a Sheriff's detention facility and supervise subordinate supervisors.

RequiredEducation and Experience:
Applicants must be 21 years of age by the time of appointment. A valid Proof of Eligibility in good standing issued by Police Officer Standard Training (POST) and ability to carry a firearm are required and must be maintained throughout your employment as a Sheriff's Captain – Detention with the San Diego Sheriff's Office.

Conditions of Employment:As part of the County of San Diego’s pre‑employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre‑employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job‑related activities of the position.
Evaluation:Qualified applicants will be placed on a twelve (12) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained on their employment and supplemental applications.
