Description / Department

Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. RRSS focuses on five units:
Housing, Dining and Hospitality (HDH), Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS), the UC San Diego Bookstore, Triton Print & Digital Media (TPDM), and the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). The RRSS portfolio supports a large, self-funded unit with tens of thousands of users and a substantial operating budget, providing services to students, faculty, staff and their families. The role uses professional concepts and applies organizational policies to resolve issues. It involves problems of limited to moderate scope requiring analysis of multiple factors and exercising judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate action. Primary contacts are internal to the department and may include external parties.

Responsibilities include supporting departments housed in the RRSS portfolio, including:

  • The UC San Diego Bookstore: a self-supporting auxiliary with annual revenue around $25,000,000, employing ~20 career staff and ~100-150 student/temporary employees.
  • Triton Print & Digital Media (TPDM): a self-supporting service enterprise with four sub units (Print & Document Centers, Campus Copier Services, Library Printing Services, Laser Printer Repair). TPDM handles design/production printing, digital publishing and campus wide print/copy services.

Under general supervision, serves as Financial Analyst for assigned departments. Uses professional knowledge to advise management and facilitate the resolution of moderate to complex budgetary and related financial and administrative issues. Applies organizational knowledge to ensure proper implementation of short- and long-term solutions. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, systems, GAAP, and ability to perform basic financial calculations and analyses.
  • Demonstrated fiscal accounting experience with ability to analyze financial data and identify fiscal requirements; ability to comprehend, analyze and reconcile moderate to complex financial data and perform complex mathematical computations with accuracy.
  • Proficiency using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Advanced expertise using computer software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word and Access).
  • Experience auditing financial data, formatting special financial reports, and communicating budgetary information using moderate to complex data and process analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations regarding fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to gather retrievable information to organize and perform basic financial analyses; experience auditing financial data and communicating budgetary information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively at all levels with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment; strong organization, independence, and prioritization skills; flexibility to meet deadlines.
  • Experience creating and updating spreadsheets, financial statements and financial reports.
  • College graduation with a major in economics, business administration, accounting, or allied field, and experience in fiscal analysis or administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Problem-solving ability with investigation/research and analytical skills to develop creative solutions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of internal control practices and their impact on protecting university resources.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to work as a team member.
  • Knowledge of records management practices and ability to design and implement effective filing systems.
  • Knowledge of retail and fund accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and ability to reconcile information and balance accounts; experience with cash handling and POS systems and related controls.
