Personal Financial Counselor – Miramar, USMC
OverviewProvide personal financial services at assigned military installations, delivering counseling, education, and resources to service members and their families. The role includes one‑on‑one counseling, briefings, presentations, and referrals to external resources, while working closely with the installation and branch Points of Contact to ensure the program meets the needs of the installation.
Responsibilities- Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
- Assist in developing budgeting plans for extended absences.
- Develop and distribute informational financial materials.
- Coordinate, publicize, and facilitate a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle.
- Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling and other electronic modes of communication (e.g., web‑based chat, secure video) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations per DoD protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues.
- Attend in‑service training, quality improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required; an associate degree plus four years of experience or a high school diploma plus six years of experience may be considered.
- 5+ years financial counseling experience.
- U.S. citizen, fluent in English (bilingual in English & Spanish if required).
- Ability to obtain a favorable Tier 2 investigation and pass the OCI process.
- Certification:
Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
