Bank Controller Consultant

Overview

We are supporting a publicly traded financial institution in their search for an experienced Bank Controller to lead the monthly and quarterly close processes, drive SOX program enhancements, and support broader organizational growth. This role offers high visibility and will be instrumental in ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This is a strong fit for a hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic, regulated environment and is comfortable interfacing with senior leadership, auditors, and regulatory bodies.

• Duration: 6+ months
• Location: Onsite in San Diego, CA. Open to candidates located within driving distance or a short flight away who are willing to be onsite during the week.
• Compensation: $85 – $150/hour
• Notes: this range is an estimate and actual pay may vary based on qualifications and experience.

• Manage all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting
• Oversee preparation of regulatory filings and financial statements, including 10-Qs and 10-Ks
• Lead enhancements to the SOX compliance framework, building scalable internal controls
• Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and supporting systems
• Supervise and develop accounting team members across key functions
• Partner with executive leadership, external auditors, regulators, and the board on reporting and compliance matters

• Proven experience as a Controller or similar accounting leadership role overseeing GL, close, and regulatory reporting for a bank with over $10B in AUM
• Expertise in call reporting and knowledge of FFIEC 031/041 requirements
• Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor teams in a public company environment
• Background in SOX program oversight and public company filings a strong plus
