Position Summary

The Accounting Manager oversees financial operations across our brewing and brewpub business. This is a mid-to-senior level accounting role with significant operational responsibility that plays a critical part in the organization. It includes maintaining accurate financial records, managing cash and inventory, and works closely with external compliance consultants and internal leadership to ensure timely and accurate compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies specific to the alcohol and hospitality industries.

This position will bring strong accounting fundamentals, cost accounting knowledge, and experience in a production or hospitality environment.
Essential Functions & Duties

Inventory & Cost Accounting:
  • Monitors and reconciles monthly book-to-physical inventory for raw ingredients, packaging, and finished goods.
  • Works closely with production and warehouse teams to analyze variances and drive process improvements.
  • Maintains and evaluates standard costs, bill of materials (BOM), and costing accuracy for brewed products.
  • Assists with periodic physical inventory counts and audits.
Cash Management:
  • Reviews and reconciles daily cash deposits from both distribution and brewpub functions.
  • Manages weekly cash flow reporting and initiates cash transfers between accounts as needed.
  • Supports liquidity planning and monitor bank activity across multiple accounts.
Debt Administration:
  • Oversee debt administration activities, including maintenance of loan amortization schedules and coordination of required payments.
  • Monitor financial covenant compliance and support ongoing lender reporting and communication requirements.
Intercompany & Multi-Entity Accounting:
  • Records and reconcile intercompany transactions across all business units and legal entities.
  • Ensures accuracy in entity-specific books and support consolidated reporting.
Month-End Close & Reporting:
  • Prepares journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and internal reports.
  • Assists with monthly close processes and contribute to financial statement accuracy.
  • Collaborates with the Controller on variance analysis and budgeting support.
Compliance & Regulatory Reporting:
  • CRV Reporting:
    Maintains accurate CRV tracking for all packaged goods and coordinate timely reporting to Cal Recycle.
  • Sales & Use Tax:
    Prepares and files monthly and quarterly sales tax returns for all applicable jurisdictions (state, county, city).
  • Excise Tax Reporting:
    Manages state and federal excise tax filings, including TTB reporting and remittance.
  • ABC Filings:
    Ensures compliance with Alcoholic Beverage Control license requirements; support renewals and any required reporting.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Fees:
    Tracks and files any required state or local environmental/health department filings tied to brewing or food service operations.
  • Local Business Licensing & Permits:
    Maintains current business licenses and file any required local reports (e.g., Gross Receipts Taxes, city/county alcohol tax).
  • Worker's Compensation:
    Performs monthly review of premium payments and related filings.
  • Provides support to external compliance consultants, legal counsel, or regulatory agencies as needed.
Team Collaboration & Leadership:
  • Directly supervises AP/AR staff and/or provides functional oversight, depending on staffing levels.
  • Partners cross-functionally with operations, sales, and hospitality teams to ensure alignment and data integrity.
  • Drives process improvements and help implement controls that support compliance and efficiency.
Partner/Investor Relations:
  • Manage equity partner transactions including distribution processes, including calculation, review, and coordination of payments and related reporting.
  • Acts as an investor relations contact and manages all partner requests and communication.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 5+ years accounting experience, ideally in the beverage, brewing, or hospitality industries.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems, preferably in a manufacturing or hospitality environment (e.g., Great Plains, Vicinity, VIP, Ottimate).
  • Understanding of beverage alcohol compliance, including TTB and ABC regulations.
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
  • Office-based role with 5 days/week onsite. After-hours or weekend support may be needed for inventory counts or deadlines.
Physical Demands

Works primarily in an office setting where the employee is provided with a workspace such as an office or cubicle. The employee may be required to lift 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lift and carry small items. Walking and/or standing are minimally required. Requires sitting and activities are primarily computer usage.
