Position: Access Monitor (Pt)

Job Summary

Hourly rate for Part‑Time Access Monitor: $18.50 per hour.

Front of House staff are expected to offer the highest level of customer service possible to guests, patrons, donors, visiting artists, artist management, and any other member of the public or administration they may encounter. The primary function of the Access Monitor is to assist guests with self‑scanning their tickets at points of entry to the venue and provide ticket scanning when necessary.

Access Monitors may also provide support by acting as Coat Room or Binocular Rental Attendants. During specific events at the Civic Theatre, Coat Room Attendants will provide coat check services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to organizing and monitoring guests’ personal belongings to ensure their security and safe return. This position is also responsible for distributions assisted listening devices.

In the role of Binocular Rental Attendant, employees will facilitate the rental and distribution of binoculars for guest use during specific events at the Civic Theatre. This process requires the use of a Point‑of‑Sale device to process the transaction, and the collection of guest’s personal information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • First and foremost is a commitment to the culture and purpose of CREATE MOMENTS THAT MATTER for all employees, guests and clients.
  • Act as an example of the BRAVO service strategy to all in the division, holding themselves and others accountable to these elements at all times.
  • Maintain a competency of SDT and Front of House division policies and procedures.
  • Provide a minimum of 40% availability to the Front of House staff for shifts throughout each month.
  • Attend pre‑event briefings and other trainings as required by management.
  • Be aware of and enforce appropriate guidelines for each event, as necessary.
  • Be informed of events in progress in the facility. Be knowledgeable of the areas each event is utilizing.
  • Stand attentively at designated position in the venue, and actively assist guests, unless on an assigned break.
  • Must be aware of, and follow, the proper procedures for assisting patrons with disabilities.
  • Provide a positive presence and consistent availability when interacting with guests.
  • Identify different types of tickets, and effectively and efficiently identify seating locations. Verify by checking event date and time, and section.
  • Greet, provide directional assistance, and assist guests to their seats, as required.
  • Cooperate with other San Diego Theatres team members to maintain an orderly environment in common areas.
  • Operate ticket scanners and assist guests in to gain access to SDT venues.
  • Operate Point of Sale register to facilitate the rental of binoculars for events at the Civic Theatre.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the Assisted Listening Devices available at the Civic Theatre.
  • Identify possible safety concerns and communicate issues immediately to House Management or Public Safety personnel. Refer uncooperative guest to House Manager or Public Safety.
  • Insure all items found on the premises are turned into lost and found as soon as possible.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of all venues within San Diego Theatres and a good understanding of evacuation procedures from all points within each venue.
  • Assist and support the work of other Front of House staff, as needed.
Requirements
  • Ability to maintain composure effectively while encountering a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness
  • Availability to provide a minimum availability to work 40% of the events per month, including 3 weekend shifts.
  • Work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work the 2.5 hour minimum for each assigned shift.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills
  • Possess an advanced attention to detail, particularly in terms of timing and events of note
  • High level of comfort in operating mobile devices.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for the diverse ethnic, socio‑economic, disability and gender diversity of guests and staff attending or working with San Diego Theatres
