Job Description

The Advanced Project Engineer will serve as the primary engineering point of contact for assigned projects, coordinating between Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Planning, and Quality to ensure smooth operations and resolve technical issues. This customer-facing, fast‑paced matrix role prepares engineering proposals, defines, generates, and reviews project requirement documentation, monitors scope, schedule, and budget, and coordinates with resource managers to ensure timely approvals.

Additional responsibilities include conducting project reviews throughout the development life cycle, performing technical studies to refine requirements, and providing consistent metrics to support internal leadership.

This is an onsite role in San Diego, CA. No relocation offered.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in R&D, new product development, redesign, and sustained production programs.
  • Manage an RF subsystem development effort, covering RF design, mechanical design, manufacturing, integration and test, and subsystem engineering.
  • Proactively identify and resolve integration issues among engineering disciplines during development.
  • Build and lead an integrated multifunction program team, representing customer and business interests.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with the customer and other CAES departments.
  • Collaborate with program and engineering management to identify and mitigate risks during the design process.
  • Interface with executive staff and program management leadership on all aspects of design execution.
  • Develop project planning documents, including Integrated Master Schedules, Integration and Test Plans, Resource Plans, Capital Equipment Plans, and related deliverables.
  • Work closely with program management to meet schedule and budget, with responsibility for P&L.
  • Translate customer requirements into systems solutions that meet technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Provide regular metrics to support customer SDRLs and internal leadership.
  • Maintain project schedule, contribute to project estimates, report cost and schedule baselines, and prepare baseline change requests and variance reports.
  • Lead trade studies, design reviews, and anomaly resolution teams; collaborate with other Project Engineers for delivery.
  • Perform functional, timeline, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (S, T, E, M).
  • At least 5 years of Project Engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years of engineering or related experience in design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques for solving complex tasks.
  • Negotiating skills, commercial acumen, and conflict‑resolution ability.
  • Position requires access to technology, materials, software, or hardware controlled by U.S. export law.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

  • Expertise in RF/Microwave subsystem design and related simulation, modeling, and verification techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience with space‑flight systems design, materials, analysis, and qualification.
  • Experience with Hi‑Rel or space development programs and space standards.

The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000–$138,000, serving as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including scope, responsibilities, experience, education, market conditions, and business considerations.
