Summary
Responsible for management of the work-brokering process for the induction of repair, overhaul, corrective, and preventative maintenance for Naval vessels on the San Diego waterfront. Maintain accurate production work status for assigned customers, providing recommendations regarding assignment of work requests, based on the capability and capacity of supporting shops.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provides direct support for the coordination of assigned maintenance and repair work for Naval vessels.
- Accesses, utilizes and updates computer database applications as required to track assigned Naval vessels maintenance and repair availabilities.
- Acts as liaison between ship's Commanding Officer (CO) and shore maintenance personnel to ensure work schedules are maintained and coordinated.
- Manages the work brokering process for repair, overhaul, corrective maintenance and repair for assigned Naval vessels on the San Diego waterfront.
- Maintains accurate production work status, providing recommendations regarding assignment of work requests based on capability and capacity of supporting activities.
- Provides preliminary and advance scheduling and planning recommendations to ensure smooth work execution and integration during assigned Naval vessel maintenance availabilities.
- Assists in the determination of alternate performance periods and deadline dates as required.
- Briefs Production Department management, Maintenance Team members and ship's force leadership regarding assigned availability progress, work statuses, including critical path jobs, key events, scheduling conflicts and issues preventing on-time availability work item completion and certification.
- Travels to deployed Naval vessels to conduct ship-checks, work requirement validations, and advanced planning, including OCONUS locations.
- Drafts reports, memorandums, and correspondence to the ships and other support activities in support of assigned Naval vessels maintenance and repair availabilities.
- Attends meetings as required to provide updated status reports in order to coordinate the progress of ongoing work on assigned Naval vessels.
- Ensures repair and testing of assigned Naval vessels systems and equipment worked on by production shops is properly conducted in accordance with applicable technical documentation.
- Tracks and reports progress on work certification prior to key events and milestone dates for assigned Naval vessels.
- Demonstrates professionalism in all communications and dealings, including with all internal and external customers.
- Expresses and exchanges ideas by means of spoken word in order to convey detailed information and/or important spoken instructions accurately to others.
- Assists in assessing the assigned Naval vessels material condition by conducting joint ship-checks with ships' force, inspectors, and support activities representatives as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years shipboard environment experience.
- Prior Ship's Maintenance Superintendent qualification under SWRMC, SERMC or MARMC.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance.
- Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively to a range of audience sizes and seniority levels.
- Ability to complete the Ship Superintendent Representative Job Qualification Requirement within four months of reporting to work.
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures, practices and techniques common to the operation of repair activities, Naval Sea System Command, and TYCOMs.
- Knowledge of Naval vessel repair and overhaul techniques to effectively and professionally coordinate progress of maintenance and repair availabilities.
- Knowledge of JFMM in order to assure sound and timely progression of Naval vessel availabilities.
- Knowledge of the naval ship's configuration and major Naval vessel systems, to provide an understanding of the work to be performed during an availability.
- Knowledge of technical writing and message drafting skills.
- Computer skills in use of word processing and spreadsheet type programs.
- Proficient in use of related computer program/systems, Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiar with support activities capabilities.
