Position

summary

With minimal supervision, will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance and/or rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours possible, and without re-work.

Essential functions
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems in Caterpillar and other manufacturer’s products.
  • Makes warranty recommendations and prepares reports when performing warranty service.
  • Performs DC electric repairs.
  • Reconditions or overhauls major components to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Recommends actions to correct failures or problems.
  • Adheres strictly to safety, housekeeping, credit and other rules, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers and personnel from other departments.
  • Takes scheduled fluid samples and performs fluid maintenance.
  • Diagnoses system and component failures.
  • Performs Equipment Condition Reporting.
  • Informs management and team members of pertinent information from customers or factory reps when deemed appropriate.
  • Analyzes Caterpillar and related Power Generation equipment systems for proper operation based on design theory.
  • Reads technical data and schematic drawings proficiently.
  • Performs corrective actions to assure proper engine functions.
  • Performs mounting system and alignment checks and adjustments.
  • Sets up and records vibration data for analysis and corrective actions.
  • Documents and performs system-level surveys and audits for engine and support systems as required by contract documentation.
  • Completes training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education, experience, and skills required
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in repair and maintenance of Industrial/Electrical Power Generation or Marine power generation equipment.
  • Working knowledge and testing capabilities.
  • Basic diagnostics and troubleshooting of systems.
  • High school graduate or GED or equivalent related to power generation, marine or heavy equipment repairs.
  • Furnish mechanics hand tools and sufficient test tooling for Caterpillar adjustments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to document and record conditions, prepare procedures and reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, CAT ET and SIS; able to work with related computer programs for system controllers and devices.
Physical demands
  • Walking and moving about on foot, often on uneven terrain.
  • Use of hands/arms, hand and power tools.
  • Lifting up to 60 lbs with frequent exertion.
  • Reaching, stooping, standing, climbing in and out of equipment.
  • Reading work tickets and service books; communicating verbally and in writing.

  • Exposure to fumes and hazardous substances.
