Job Description

  • Regulatory Compliance & Permitting
    • Support environmental permitting and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to air quality, wastewater, hazardous waste, and stormwater.
    • Prepare and submit permit applications, reports, and responses to regulatory agencies, including:
      • Air Pollution Control District (APCD)
      • Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ)
      • Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC)
      • Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB)
      • Cal/OSHA
      • City of San Diego Water & Fire Departments
      • County of San Diego Radiological Health
  • HSE Program Management
    • Ensure EHS policies and procedures reflect current regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Develop and implement corrective actions and training programs to address compliance gaps.
    • Conduct regular workplace assessments and implement improvements to enhance HSE program maturity.
    • Identify and assess environmental and ergonomic risk factors and recommend mitigation strategies.
    • Support or lead emergency response planning and drills; maintain knowledge of emergency response fundamentals.
  • Training, Coaching & Communication
    • Provide day-to-day HSE guidance to site personnel as part of a cross-functional team.
    • Coach employees and supervisors on their roles in maintaining HSE compliance.
    • Develop, update, and deliver safety and environmental training programs.
    • Promote safety culture through effective communication, including team meetings, newsletters, and the company intranet.
    • Participate in Safety Committee meetings, team inspections, and Leadership Walks.
  • Monitoring & Reporting
    • Complete required EHS tasks and inspections to ensure compliance with environmental permits and internal policies.
    • Track, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics, including waste and chemical management, incident tracking, and audit findings.
    • Provide backup support for chemical technician tasks, as needed.
  • Other Duties
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the EHS function.
    • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by the EHS Manager.
  • Physical Demands
    • Ability to bend down, stand for extended periods, and lift 50 lbs.
    Salary Range

    $83,440 - $125,160 annually (San Diego). Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on geographical location, job function, education, and experience of the successful candidate.

    Qualifications

    Minimum:

    • High School diploma (or equivalent)
    • Two years of experience in the Environmental, Health, and Safety field.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
    • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by U.S. export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "U.S. Person" under U.S. export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Health & Safety, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry.
    • Understand data analysis, trending, root cause problem solving and using measurements to drive process improvement.
    • Thorough understanding of ergonomic principles as applied to various work environments including industrial, manufacturing and office settings.
    • Enthusiastic about process improvement, a self-starter that is driven to improve and sustain initiatives.
    • Familiarity with the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) method in defining risk associated with each step of a process or task.
    • Knowledge of federal/state/local regulations.
    • Data analysis.
    • Technical writing/interpretation of reports.
    • Microsoft office/other software proficiency.
    • Incident analysis - root cause to corrective action.
