Under the direction of the District Local Assistance Engineer (DLAE) and Senior Transportation Engineer, the incumbent administers and manages State and Federal‑Aid funding programs. Key duties include:
- Collaborating with Local Agencies, Regional Transportation Planning Agencies (RTPA) – Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC), Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) – Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). Provide engineering technical assistance, procedural and program guidance, and funds management on locally‑administered State and Federal‑Aid projects.
- Coordinating project reviews with other functional departments in the District, Headquarters (HQ), and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
- Managing local assistance databases to maintain current and accurate project information.
Candidates must review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in‑person written hurdle exam, do not take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Eligibility may be determined by your score on the TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER (CIVIL) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility, you must be on the state examination list.

- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is required for Range
D. - Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

- Describe/provide examples of your experience working independently with minimal direction.
- Describe/provide examples of your experience handling multiple priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
- Describe/provide examples of your experience exercising good judgment and applying laws, policies, and practices in developing solutions.
- Describe/provide examples of your experience in written and verbal communication with internal and external partners.
