(ECI) is a leading power engineering consultant firm that provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials throughout the U.S. Our experience includes system voltages from 4.16 kV through 765 kV. Currently we have an immediate opening for a Substation Project Engineer in San Diego, CA.
Responsibilities- Conceptual, preliminary, and final detailed design of new, upgraded, and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction, and commissioning/startup support through energization.
- Development and delivery of physical, electrical, civil, and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits, and specifications.
- Assist the Project Manager in planning and execution of best‑in‑class projects, including client and stakeholder coordination, training and mentoring of design staff, project quality assurance, and oversight of design engineers, designers, drafters and support staff.
- Coordinate specialized tasks with ECI’s subject‑matter‑expert discipline groups such as Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection (relay coordination and settings), Civil Engineering, Communication (SCADA Integration), Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying, Lands/Right‑of‑Way, and Project Management/Controls.
- Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Six (6) or more years of project and design engineering experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organization and planning abilities.
- Ability to work in a team environment and commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Advanced knowledge of power engineering principles and expertise regarding applicable codes, standards, and design tools.
- Ability to oversee and direct design personnel on a project team.
- Experience in the utility or merchant power industry a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Capacity to meet fast‑paced project schedules and willingness to travel occasionally.
- Not requiring sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H‑1B) now or in the future.
Compensation Range: $104,000 – $133,000 Annually.
