The Sensing Product Design team is looking for a talented mechanical engineer to develop great experiences and bring Apple products to life. We are the team developing many of the sensors that changed the way people interact with their technology. Touch  the phone and tablet, Touch  integrated them, and the heart rate monitor lets you keep tabs on yourself.

• Own the end-to-end design, development and validation of sensing technology in Apple s portfolio of products.
• Work with a multifunctional team to generate design concepts; as the mechanical expert you will be responsible for engineering analysis and documentation for your portion of the project.
• In prototyping and validation phases, support external manufacturing vendors with process development and root cause analysis for issues found during testing. Travel internationally between 15% and 25% as required.
• Identify design tradeoffs and risks to choose viable paths forward.
• Apply good experimental design and the scientific method to reduce design risk early.
• Run tolerance studies to ensure designs are feasible over manufacturing tolerances.
• Drive processes to meet Apple s high cosmetic standards.
• Experience with high-volume mass production or consumer electronics is a plus.

• BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience.
• Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including properties of materials, solid mechanics, beam statics, Newtonian physics, and thermodynamics.
• 3D CAD experience is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to craft clear engineering documentation.
• Able to effectively collaborate with diverse team members and external vendors to achieve project goals.

• High volume, consumer electronics or sensing experience is a plus.
• Hands-on experience designing for a production environment is a plus.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $139,500 and $258,100, and the base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary employee stock programs. You ll also receive benefits including: comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, discounted products and free services, and reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition.

This role might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation.
