Senior Energy Data Scientist

Requirements

• Advanced proficiency in R programming language
• Masters or PhD in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, or Engineering
• 7+ years of experience in energy data analytics
• Familiarity with California Energy Commission (CEC) or California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is highly preferred
• Strong analytical skills and experience in statistical modeling
• Ability to work within a hybrid technology stack including Microsoft Excel and R

Responsibilities:

• Lead technical architect for project, analyzing energy efficiency, building electrification, and demand flexibility program performance – Process and manage extensive datasets including Smart Meter and utility billing data – Develop and maintain R scripts for documenting energy forecasts for state regulatory audits – Model the impact of building electrification on the states energy load profile – Review utility reports and apply statistical methods to verify energy savings – Update forecasting tools for the cost and energy impacts of transitioning to electric appliances – Enhance load-shifting tools to meet state reliability goals – Implement automation and AI solutions to categorize and process legislative and technical reports

This impactful three-year project aims to equip California with the analytical capabilities necessary to achieve its climate objectives by 2030. The position is part-time, offering a pay rate of $90.00 per hour, and will be conducted remotely while accommodating Pacific Time Zone working hours.
