Job Overview
APTIM, a leading engineering and resilience consulting firm with a global presence and a rapidly expanding Energy Infrastructure and Climate Resilience practice, is seeking a Grid Analytics Engineer to support our growing grid modernization and energy-resilience portfolio.
This position plays a key role in developing data-driven solutions for distributed energy systems, battery integration, and advanced grid modeling that improve the resilience and performance of critical infrastructure.
The ideal candidate brings 2-5 years of experience in power systems, data analytics, or energy technology, and demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and curiosity about emerging grid technologies. This is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary experts on cutting-edge resilience and decarbonization projects while building advanced skills in energy modeling, optimization, and risk analytics.
Key Responsibilities /Accountabilities- Support the design and analysis of distributed energy, storage, and grid-modernization projects for utilities, data centers, and government clients.
- Develop and run power-system or distribution-network models using one or more industry tools (e.g., OpenDSS, GridLAB-D, MATLAB, or Python-based frameworks).
- Conduct battery dispatch optimization, hosting‑capacity, and interconnection analyses to evaluate system performance and grid impacts.
- Analyze time‑series, sensor, or SCADA data to identify reliability trends and inform system improvements.
- Assist in developing dashboards, visualizations, and analytical tools to communicate results and support client decision‑making.
- Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and planners to integrate resilience analytics and digital‑twin modeling into project workflows.
- Support proposal development, technical writing, and client presentations for energy and resilience projects.
- Contribute to internal research and tool development to enhance APTIM's analytics and modeling capabilities.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Energy Systems, Computer, or Data Engineering, or related field.
- 2‑5 years of experience in power‑systems engineering, distributed energy integration, or data analytics.
- Proficiency in at least one technical computing language (Python, MATLAB, R, or similar) for data analysis or modeling.
- Foundational understanding of distribution systems, energy‑storage operation, or renewable integration.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in hybrid teams.
- Familiarity with optimization or machine‑learning applications for energy forecasting and asset management.
- Experience with grid‑modeling or simulation tools (e.g., OpenDSS, GridLAB‑D, or DIgSILENT).
- Exposure to DER integration studies, microgrid design, or interconnection evaluations.
- Experience developing data dashboards or visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Plotly).
- Interest in climate resilience, decarbonization, and emerging energy technologies.
