General NotesThe San Diego Community College District accepts applications for adjunct (part-time/substitute) positions for three college campuses (City, Mesa, Miramar) and College of Continuing Education centers on a continuous basis. Applications may be purged approximately one year from submittal; you will receive an automated e-mail notice to re-apply if you wish to remain in the pool. Part-time/temporary positions offer flexible hours and opportunities to assist a diverse group of adult students.
Applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.
- Perform educational advising, administer and interpret appropriate assessment instruments for prospective students; refer students to support as necessary.
- Inform students about college procedures, catalog use, regulations, fees, resources, special programs, and use of placement test scores.
- Assist entering students to complete a first-semester individual educational plan; provide continuing students assistance in identifying appropriate academic and educational goals.
- Conduct individual career counseling.
- Provide career information to students as needed.
- Assist students in finding appropriate college and community resources to resolve problems and crises affecting their success.
- Provide counseling services for probationary and disqualified students; address student learning problems in cooperation with the instructional program.
- Provide counseling and advisement services to special program students (financial aid, international students, veterans, students with disabilities, athletes, and students in retention programs).
- Assist with the ongoing planning and implementation of the college Matriculation Plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
- Master's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work or Career Development, or the equivalent; AND
- EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall have completed:
- Nine (9) semester units relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR
- Six (6) semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a relevant program;
- Two (2) years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages. OR the equivalent.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Equivalency:
If you do not possess the exact degrees listed, complete a Request for Equivalency Form and attach it during the application process. Foreign Degree: must have coursework evaluated by a member of NACES or ACEI and submit the evaluation with the application. Licenses/Certificates/Credentials: [If possess] California Community College Counselor Credential (valid for life).
