Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Academic Club Program Assistant to join our team. This role will provide in-classroom support to our after school literacy program located at two local area elementary schools. Assistance will be with the Academic Club supervisors in development and implementing lesson plans for English Language learning students, facilitating and providing whole-class, small group, and individual instruction and support as needed.
The position requires strong teaching and classroom management skills including behavior management. This is a four-day per week part-time position (preferably M, T, W, Th for 20 hours per week, roughly 2:00pm-6:00pm plus a few admin hours). Employment beyond May 31, 2026 is anticipated to start back up during the Fall 2026 school year, but not guaranteed and is contingent upon Bayside Community Center’s fundraising efforts and contract extensions.
- Class supervision
- Develop and implement curriculum for student instruction
- Collect, record, and analyze student data
- Provide parents with reminders regarding program changes or resource availabilities
- Communicate student progress and areas of need to parents
- Promote health and wellness services at school site
- Communicate with school staff and faculty regarding student enrollment and progress
- Support Academic Club Program Coordinator with researching, planning, and executing extracurricular activities
- High School diploma, GED in progress or equivalent experience with children.
- Experience working with children in settings such as daycare, preschool, camp, tutoring, or babysitting preferred
- Knowledge of classroom management, behavior management, and childhood development principles
- Certification in first aid and CPR highly desirable
- Background in early childhood education or special education is a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and parents
- Passion for nurturing children's growth through engaging activities such as theater, sports coaching, or Christian counseling is advantageous
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment
- Prior experience with teaching or childcare programs will be considered an asset
- English/Spanish bilingual
- Must be fingerprinted and provide criminal record clearance
- Provide proof full COVID vaccination
- Valid drivers license, clear driving record
