Contract Instructor-College Credit
We are seeking an Assistant Professor, Mathematics for Fall 2026. This full‑time, exempt position is offered on a 10‑month contract and will be located in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at San Diego Mesa College.
Key Responsibilities- Teach a variety of math courses, with a focus on statistics.
- Integrate effective pedagogical methods with an emphasis on equity and inclusion.
- Supervise and instruct students; maintain office hours for academic support.
- Participate in academic committees and curriculum development.
- Take on leadership responsibilities within the department.
- Master’s degree in mathematics or applied mathematics, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or applied mathematics AND a Master’s degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education, OR
- The equivalent of the above.
- Graduate credit coursework in statistics, learning technologies, pure or applied mathematics.
- A minimum of 2 years experience teaching statistics at a community college.
- Demonstrated mastery of teaching methods, active learning, and pedagogical theory, especially for historically excluded and underrepresented student populations.
- Ability to explain mathematics conceptually and to use technology effectively in the classroom.
- Knowledge of GAISE guidelines and recent legislation affecting math education.
- Professional growth through continued learning and collaboration with peers and staff.
- Cultural competency with diverse student populations.

- Foreign degree evaluation (required if applicable).
- List of three professional references.
- List of licenses/certificates/credentials. (If you hold a California Community College Instructor Credential in Mathematics, include it.)
- Official college transcripts.
- Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam. (Renewed every 4 years.)
- Live Scan fingerprint clearance from the District. (Must be received prior to first day.)
- Proof of U.S. work‑eligibility documents as required by the I‑9 form.
- New‑hire processing appointment at People, Culture, and Technology Services.
- Contract:
one‑year term, eligible for annual renewal.
Salary: $6,933.44–$8,849.03 per month, based on the 2024 AFT College Faculty salary schedule. The position is non‑negotiable and FLSA exempt. Benefits include employer‑paid medical, dental, vision, sick leave, vacation, and professional development under the AFT‑Guild Collective Bargaining Agreement. Contract employees become members of the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS).
