The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Special Education Teacher - Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) with North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) SELPA of the Student Services and Programs Division. The Special Education Teacher - DHH reports to the Coordinator of the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE), and is responsible for planning and implementing quality learning experiences, preparing semester plans and daily lesson plans, and creating a stimulating classroom environment conducive to intellectual discovery.

Teachers participate in the IEP process and integrate IEP activities into their lessons. The teachers are responsible for planning assessment activities to evaluate students  progress in relation to State standards and then prepare reports on student learning progress.

The current vacancy will support students preschool through 5th grade.

This position is full-time and will offer the certificated benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, and will participate in the CalSTRS state retirement system.

Qualifications

Requirements / Qualifications

This position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor s degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education or related field, and education or experience in the areas of learning disabilities, ESL, project based learning and team teachings.

Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:

  • Valid Education Specialist teaching credential with authorization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH); or equivalent document issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
  • Valid English Learner authorization (CLAD or equivalent document)
  • CPR and First Aid certification are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in signing required.

We are also accepting applications for those candidates who are eligible to receive an internship credential as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. To be considered for this option, please obtain and attach an Eligibility for Intern Credential letter (addressed to The San Diego County Office of Education) as issued by your university. If you have already been issued an intern credential by the CTC, please attach that document to your application.

  • Copy of degree or transcripts confirming bachelor s degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education, or related field
  • Copy of valid Education Specialist teaching credential with authorization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH); or equivalent document issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
  • Proof of CLAD Certification/English Learner Authorization if not embedded in your credential
  • Eligibility for Intern Credential letter as issued by your university (if applicable)
Comments and Other Information

A stipend of $4,500, paid out after three (3) years of consecutive full-time service, shall be paid to unit members hired on or after July 1, 2018, who hold state certification and are employed as Speech Language Pathologists, Audiologists, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or Visually-Impaired. The stipend will be paid out at the completion of the third instructional year.

This position is also identified as hard-to-staff credentialed area for 2022-23 and 2023-24 per Article XV.2.C.5.B of the SDCAE collective bargaining agreement.

Valid California credentials are a requirement at the time of hire. If you do not possess the required California credentials, you may go to the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing website  for details on meeting California’s requirements.
