The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Special Education Classroom Behavior Intervention Aide for North County Academy operated under the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education of the Student Services and Programs Division.

The Special Education Classroom Behavior Intervention Aide supports special education students with social and emotional needs through behavioral interventions and academic support; performs student data collection tasks; assists teacher with classroom maintenance and operation. These aides will work to de-escalate students who are emotionally upset and ensure that student interactions are safe in crisis situations.

This position is part-time and will offer the classified benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, and will participate in the CalPERS state retirement system.

Requirements / Qualifications

This position requires the ability to meet the ESSA requirement, as well as a combination of education, training and experience which would clearly demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities outlined in the job description including completion of college-level course work in general academic subject areas such as math, science and English, and work experience in a school, other educational environment, or mental health environment.

Experience working with students with social and emotional needs is highly desirable.

* In order to satisfy the paraprofessional requirements of the ESSA Act, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education;
  • Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree;
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading (or readiness), writing (or readiness), and mathematics (or readiness).

The results of this recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list to fill the current vacancy and any other vacancies in this classification for the next six (6) months, or until the list is exhausted.
