Davila Day School is a special education school in Chula Vista for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The school is operated by the South County Special Education Local Plan Area in affiliation with the San Diego County Office of Education. Davila Day School serves preschool through sixth-grade students from schools in South and East counties. The mission of the school is to provide Deaf and hard-of-hearing students a comprehensive, fully accessible and language-rich learning environment, with equal access to the general education curriculum and standards.

At Davila Day School the Speech, Hearing and Language Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing quality learning experiences and creating a stimulating environment conducive to developing speech and language for preschool through sixth-grade students who have a hearing loss. Requirements / Qualifications

The current opening supports both students in our auditory/oral and American Sign Language (ASL) programs. Applicants should have post-graduate coursework in speech and hearing development, language disorders, diagnostic remediation audiology or a related field. Prior job experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students is preferred. Applicants must have experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team doing assessments, interpreting diagnostic evaluations, collaborating with DHH itinerant and general education teachers, and providing family/staff consultation.

Knowledge and understanding of current amplification technologies, in particular, cochlear implant is highly desired. Experience with auditory/oral methods and strategies is highly desired.

Requirements
  • Applicants must hold a valid California Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential – Language, Speech and Hearing or Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential – Language, Speech and Hearing or equivalent credential as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language is required
  • CPR certification
