Summary

Skills Trainer/Youth Coach will provide Intensive Home & Community Based Support (IHCBS) to youth in Wraparound program. Youth coach will work as part of a team of people working with and supporting the youth and family through the Wraparound Process. Skills Trainer/Youth Coach will act as the youth’s advocate, mentor, and behavior coach, and will provide skill building related to the youths' goals.

Youth Coaches can either have lived experience as a recipient of behavioral health, special education, or substance use services or have a Bachelor's degree and relevant experience working with youth. This position requires driving and working in the community, families' homes, and an office.

Essential

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Provide IHCBS services to youth in the home, school, and community focusing on specific skill deficit areas including independent living skills, emotion regulation, social skills and coping skills
  • Help develop formal/informal support networks for youth/families in the communities in which they reside
  • Participate in family wrap meetings as scheduled
  • Act as a positive role model for youth and promote greater youth participation and voice
  • Document each skills training session per SDCC policies and procedures
  • Maintain clear, effective, and open communication between multi-disciplinary clinical staff and administrative personnel within and between SDCC programs
  • Utilize supervision, consultation, and training as necessary to provide high-quality services to youth in an effective manner
  • Be available to work evening and occasional weekend hours, and to be available to the youth on their caseload during work hours
  • Fulfills all required training including all applicable EBP training, cultural competency, and HIPAA

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Valid California Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • High School Diploma or GED and relevant lived experience
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Professional experience working with mental health systems and/or Special Education
  • Lived experience as a consumer of mental health services, substance use services, or Special Education
  • Experience working with kids or teens
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience with documentation for medical billing and experience with electronic medical records
  • Experience working in a program providing Pathways to Wellbeing or Wraparound services, working with medically fragile youth, in a school setting, an ABA program, or with foster/probation youth
  • Personal experience as a consumer of services as a youth
