Position descriptionThe Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor rank faculty positions in association with teaching in our Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) Program.
The HWSPH has focal areas of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Climate & Environmental Health, Community Health Services and Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Health Equity and Justice, Global Health, Health Behavior, Health Policy, Public Mental Health, and Technology & Precision Health and offers six degree programs: BS in Public Health, MPH, MS and PhD in Biostatistics, PhD in Public Health, and a Joint doctoral program with SDSU.
Further, the School has a Preventive Medicine Residency program. UC San Diego has initiated an undergraduate program partnership with Southwestern College in southeast San Diego, with the HWSPH BSPH being the first program to lead this partnership aimed at increasing access and pipeline to the UC system.
The School has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Moores Cancer Center, Rady School of Management, Jacobs School of Engineering, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School. The School comprises more than 125 primary faculty and academics, 25 secondary faculty, and 150 staff members and provides instruction and mentorship to 850 BSPH majors and 225 postgraduate students, and the School's faculty and academics hold ~$255M total awarded grants and contracts.
Position Duties:
Teaching professors are full-time faculty who are responsible for teaching six 4-unit courses per year. These positions are focused on teaching in our BS in Public Health Program and will include teaching on the main UC San Diego campus in La Jolla and at our partner site at Southwestern College in the Chula Vista area of San Diego. Teaching may include teaching courses in other School programs, subject to the School's needs.
In addition to demonstrating excellence in teaching, individuals in the Teaching Professor series are expected to engage in pedagogy-related professional activities and service to the University and field. They may engage in scientific research as a principal investigator or collaborator and may hold grants.
Appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor rank and will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Positions are full-year appointments.

Candidates must have demonstrated experience teaching in a Public Health-related topic, a minimum of three classes as instructor of record or a minimum of two classes as instructor of record plus a minimum of three classes as teaching assistant. - Associate/Full Professor:
Candidates must have a PhD, DrPH, or related doctoral degree. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in teaching, a minimum of five classes in a Public Health-related topic as instructor of record.
