Note:

This district accepts applications on a continuous basis for adjunct (part-time/substitute) positions across City, Mesa, Miramar campuses and continuing education centers. There may not be immediate openings; qualified applicants are placed in a pool for possible assignment in fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. Applications are purged roughly one year from submittal; you will receive an automated email to re-apply if you wish to remain in the pool.

Major

Responsibilities
  • Primary duties relate to curriculum and teaching; assignments may include both lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Adjunct instructional faculty are expected to be available to students outside of class.
  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain appropriate professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
  • Teach all scheduled classes.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Provide quality instruction and foster an environment that emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
  • Any Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience directly related to the area of assignment; OR
  • Any Associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience directly related to the area of assignment; OR
  • The equivalent.

AND

  • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Desired Qualifications

Equivalency:
If you do not possess the exact degrees listed or anticipate receiving the required degree prior to the start of teaching, complete a Request for Equivalency Form and attach it during the application process. Foreign Degree:
Applicants with foreign degrees must have coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with your online application. Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:
If possessed, California Community College Instructor Credential in Psychology (valid for life).

Variable, depending on assignment. Conditions of Employment:
Selected candidate must complete the following prior to employment:

  • Submit official college transcripts as stated on the application (even if a degree is not required).
  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam (renewed every 4 years).
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan at the district’s expense (clearance required before first day).
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

At the time of offer, proper salary placement is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluations (if applicable). Instructors with advanced coursework shall be placed on the appropriate class and step on the Adjunct College Salary Schedules, effective the first month following receipt of official transcripts.
