Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. RRSS consists of five units:
Housing, Dining and Hospitality (HDH), Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS), the UC San Diego Bookstore, Triton Print & Digital Media, and the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). RRSS aims to meet diverse needs with an emphasis on innovation and customer satisfaction while fostering belonging for students and staff.
Position Overview
:
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Upper Division Housing, the Assistant Director of Residence Life (ADRL) coordinates significant portions of the residential life program. The ADRL implements the residential life program to create a safe and secure living and learning environment that supports students’ personal, educational, social and professional development. The ADRL coordinates the Resident Advisor program, including selection, trainings and providing work direction through weekly meetings and annual evaluations.
The ADRL advises Resident Advisors and residential programming boards to implement programming models reflecting the UC San Diego Principles of Community and the educational philosophy. The ADRL assists in managing a portion of the residential programming budget and collaborates with college and university officials in crisis management. The ADRL provides counseling and conflict mediation, enforces university policy, and resolves conduct issues.
The ADRL must work independently, applying knowledge of student development, office administration and crisis response, and may perform the full range of duties within a Student Life specialization. The ADRL assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral, and provides information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations.

- Must be available for on-call emergency response including evenings, weekends and holidays. Regular working hours;
Monday – Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm. Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. - Attendance at new student and parent orientations, Move-in & Move-out, the annual Leadership Retreat, the Sun God Festival, Family Day, Transfer Admit Day and other campus-based programs as assigned is mandatory.
- Thorough knowledge of student advising and counseling techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
- Skilled in managing a broad range of student services within the residential life community and knowledgeable of university services and resources.
- Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of university and departmental risk assessment procedures.
- Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
- Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
- Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems and to organize programs and projects.
