Electronic Resource Specialist (Library Services Specialist III)
Position Summary:
The Electronic Resource Specialist supports reliable access to the Library’s electronic journals, books, databases, and streaming media. The role involves managing the full lifecycle of e-resources, troubleshooting access issues, and maintaining discovery systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot day‑to‑day authentication and access for electronic resources.
- Assist with trials, activations, updates, removals, and usage data collection to keep library listings current.
- Coordinate streaming media renewals and update electronic resource collections across library platforms.
- Provide copy cataloging backup by searching, editing, and ensuring accurate bibliographic records in the discovery system.
- Support student and faculty success with seamless access to digital research materials.
- Collaborate in a tech‑forward environment focused on discovery, access, and service improvement.
- Gain hands‑on experience with library technologies and e‑resource workflows.
Full‑time, benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. Designated non‑exempt under FLSA, eligible for overtime. Standard SDSU work hours:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The position works on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
High school education or equivalent plus 2–3 years of related library/clerical experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Key Qualifications- Experience with spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) to analyze and compare data.
- Proficient in using online resources and search tools for problem solving.
- Judgment to adapt established guidelines within organizational context.
- Familiarity with major library classification or organizational systems (Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
- Ability to lift materials up to 20 pounds.
- Preferred:
Experience with library management system (LMS) or similar platform. - Preferred:
Experience with electronic resource management or digital resource tools.
Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Salary based on step placement and professional experience.
- Step placement:
Step 1 ($4,280). - Classified salary range: $4,280 – $6,235 per month (Step 1 – Step 20).
- Future step increases subject to contract negotiations.
