Background

Jewish Federation of San Diego (JFSD) is looking for an educator to teach the lessons of the Holocaust. The primary audience will be high school students; however, they may also teach educators, community members and younger students. This role will be an integral part of the work of the Legacy of Light Goldberg Institute for Holocaust Education (The Institute), a new program within the Jewish Federation of San Diego.

Position Summary

The Field Educator will serve as the primary guide and facilitator of the Institute’s Mobile Learning Center, an interactive experience designed to deliver dynamic, innovative, and accessible Holocaust education to schools and community sites by traveling to these locations directly.

The Institute’s Mobile Learning Center is scheduled to launch in San Diego in March of 2026. Prior to the community launch, the educator will actively participate in planning, preparation and other critical tasks to ensure a successful launch.

This role requires excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal abilities, comfort with technology, and a love of teaching. The educator should be a confident presenter, an agile troubleshooter, and a passionate ambassador for Holocaust education. Training will be provided in all aspects of the Mobile Learning Center, and technical support will be available through partner vendors. This position also involves working closely with a growing team, including contributing to special projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is as Field Educator of the Institute’s Mobile Learning Center. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the continued successful operation of the Mobile Learning Center by supporting communication with partners, reporting on interactions, and managing maintenance and ongoing development.

  • Facilitate Mobile Learning experiences by:
    • Guiding students, teachers, and the public through interactive experiences at the Mobile Learning Center and ensuring meaningful educational experiences.
    • Utilizing digital education tools and troubleshooting technical issues.
    • Serving as the primary contact for teachers, volunteers and docents.
    • Setting up the learning center and materials, including care and handling of historical artifacts.
  • Communicate with educators before and after visits to support pre- and post-visit activities as well as planning for day-of site visit(s).
  • Recruit and manage volunteers/docents, and train Institute staff who support the Mobile Learning Center.
  • Coordinate the Mobile Learning Center’s upkeep and transportation between locations and track related expenses.
  • Ensure that impact evaluation tools (e.g. surveys, questionnaires) are utilized and completed by partners.
  • Support marketing and development by gathering promotional material (e.g., photos, quotes, stories.)
  • Collaborate with team members to contribute to the advancement of the Mobile Learning Center.
  • Take on special assignments and contribute flexibility to the Institute’s mission and success.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
  • Min. 5 years of experience in high school education required. Experience in Holocaust education preferred.
