Position Description

Position:
The Preuss School Female K‑12 Teacher – Physical Education.

The Preuss School at UC San Diego () is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college‑prep education for low‑income scholars who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As a department within UC San Diego Academic Affairs, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop the best practices in preparation of scholars of diverse and under‑represented backgrounds to access higher education.

Under the supervision of the Principal, The Preuss School Physical Education teachers will provide instruction, encourage student progress, and manage the learning environment. Teach content and skills in subject matter, utilizing courses of study adopted by the California State Curriculum Standards as guidelines. Adapt subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. Establish and maintain an environment conducive to positive teacher/student relations, on the field, off‑site sessions, locker room supervision.

Promote an environment which respects and values students' ideas and ways of thinking. Establish, maintain and support standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current discipline for an orderly, productive learning environment. Use a variety of assessments to monitor and evaluate the learning progress of each student and to make instructional decisions.

  • Qualifications
  • Required – Bachelor's degree.
  • Current California Teaching Credential (CTC) – Single Subject Life Science, or the same teaching credential from states that are members of the NASDTEC Interstate Reciprocity Agreements and have signed a reciprocity agreement with California.
  • English Learner (ELA/ELAS/CLAD/BCLAD equivalent), or California Teaching Credential – Clear Cross‑cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate or equivalent authorization, or equivalent from out‑of‑state.
  • Minimum of one year teaching as Physical Education teacher.
  • Minimum of one year experience in teaching underserved students.
