Visiting Professor of Economics – San Diego

Opportunity
  • Courses meet onsite once or twice a week for eight weeks at the San Diego Campus.
  • Face‑to‑face interaction is blended with technology (such as online discussions and assignments) for an enhanced learning environment.
  • Faculty are responsible for facilitating student learning by teaching courses and programs in accordance with DeVry University requirements.
  • Faculty develop course syllabi and lesson plans and apply teaching techniques to best achieve course and programmatic objectives.
  • All DeVry instructors will participate in a comprehensive faculty training program and ongoing faculty development activities to ensure the highest quality instruction.
  • DeVry University does not guarantee any specific number of work hours or assignments; hours may vary based on the University’s needs and discretion.
  • Faculty also participate in a brief video highlighting how we engage in meaningful student support.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and provide students with an approved DeVry University syllabus that follows a campus template and includes terminal course objectives.
  • Organize, prepare, and regularly revise and update all course materials.
  • Use appropriate technological options for online technologies and course‑related software, including websites, e‑mail, and online discussions for preparing the course and making it accessible to students.
  • Model effective oral and written communications that engage students, provide clarity, and improve learning.
  • Set clear expectations for the course by publishing course terminal objectives, assignment/examination dates, and weighting of various evaluation categories.
  • Ensure that content and level of material included on exams correspond to the course terminal objectives.
  • Demonstrate consistency and fairness in the preparation and grading of exams, providing timely feedback to students.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A doctorate degree is required, along with 18 graduate credit hours in the subject being taught.

  • Qualifying credentials must be awarded by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or by an international institution determined to hold equivalent accreditation.
  • Additional requirements driven by state licensing or accreditation considerations may apply.
  • Faculty must have requisite subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills.
  • Faculty must also have excellent motivational and instructional skills in a diverse and non‑traditional environment.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and facilitate the efforts of diverse teams.

Pay

Visiting Professor pay is based on level, the number of credit hours taught per 8‑week session, and location. Hours may vary.

  • Pay may vary in most states from $1,500 to $2,700 per 8-week session.
  • In AZ, CA, IN, and PA, pay is an hourly rate of either $22.00 or $23.50 per hour.
