UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies Pre‑College Programs is looking for instructors to teach transferable college credit courses to high school students. Courses provide an opportunity to explore an academic interest and prepare high school students for the increasingly competitive college admission process. Each offering is designed to engage students in an intensive exploration of a specific topic through lectures, discussions, individual and group work.
We have multiple courses that are offered at local high schools in various disciplines (Biology, Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, etc…)

Compensation EstimateA reasonable estimate of compensation for teaching one section of this course is $6,000-$7,500. The amount determined within the compensation range is dependent upon course modality, units of instruction, and number of enrollments. Instructional agreements are made on a section‑by‑section basis at the discretion of the University with no guarantee to teach future sections of this course or any other courses.
ComplianceAs a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; are currently being investigated for misconduct; left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct; or have filed an appeal with a previous employer. “Misconduct” means any violation of the policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant's previous place of employment, including, but not limited to, violations of policies or laws prohibiting sexual harassment, sexual assault, or other forms of harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct, as defined by the employer.

Responsibilities- Use subject‑matter expertise to impart knowledge to students
- Design syllabus and curriculum as assigned
- Communicate expectations to students
- Prepare and deliver course materials: face‑to‑face or if applicable, fully remotely, or live online.
- Evaluate student learning and assign grades
- Design interactive and motivational activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning
- Update materials periodically, and regularly monitor students in order to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum
- Respond to student needs and questions
- Create a high‑performance environment in which students of diverse backgrounds are motivated to succeed; ensure that homework and projects are appropriate and any final projects are clear, coherent, and achievable in the time available for execution
- Leverage UC San Diego resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum
- Handle mechanics of position according to deadlines (LOAs, texts, A/V, grade submission, etc.)
- Communicate with Program Manager and Instructor Services Team on a timely basis
- A graduate degree from an accredited institution required; in exceptional cases an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be accepted (students currently enrolled in graduate programs may still apply provided that have experience teaching undergraduate courses)
- Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject area
- Recognized leadership or authority on subject matter
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information
- Highly effective interpersonal skills
- University‑level teaching experience (or corporate equivalent) preferred or experience as a TA
- Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance
- Previous experience in teaching high school students in a classroom or camp setting
Prior to applying graduate students and post‑doctoral scholars must obtain permission from their respective campus department.
Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) training will be required along with tuberculosis (TB) certificate of clearance.
