UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies Life Science Department seeks applicants to be instructors in the area of Regulatory Affairs and QA/QC. UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies currently offers several programs in Regulatory Affairs and QA/QC covering both medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Courses within the programs offer students the opportunity to learn from highly qualified practitioners who are passionate about teaching and can impart the knowledge necessary to be successful in the profession.
Students participating in the program may be new entrants to the field or mid‑career professionals who need to acquire the body of knowledge contained in our curriculum. Most students possess at least a bachelor’s degree. Applications for instructors are accepted throughout the year in order to fill immediate program needs and to increase our depth of experts in this area of study.
Applicants possessing current knowledge in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Regulatory requirements for drugs and biologics
- Regulatory Compliance issues
- Strategies and Approaches to FDA Meetings
- Quality Assurance
- GLP for Drugs and Biologics
The curriculum is continually updated and tailored to provide students with the background and techniques to become responsible and effective RA professionals. Taught by qualified practitioners, our courses feature practical applications, regulatory information, underlying rationale, and current issues, all of which can be immediately utilized in and applied to students’ work environments.
A reasonable estimate of compensation for teaching one section of this course is $1,300-$6,500. The amount determined within the compensation range is dependent upon course modality, units of instruction, and number of enrollments. Instructional agreements are made on a section-by-section basis at the discretion of the University with no guarantee to teach future sections of this course or any other courses.
As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; are currently being investigated for misconduct; left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct; or have filed an appeal with a previous employer. “Misconduct” means any violation of the policies or laws governing conduct at the applicant’s previous place of employment, including, but not limited to, violations of policies or laws prohibiting sexual harassment, sexual assault, or other forms of harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct, as defined by the employer.
- Design syllabus and curriculum as assigned
- Communicate expectations to students
- Prepare and deliver course materials: face-to-face, online, and/or in combination
- Evaluate student learning and assign grades
- Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students
- Communicate with Program Manager and Instructor Services Team on a timely basis
- Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in field of practice
- Respond to student needs and questions
- Handle mechanics of position according to deadlines (LOAs, texts, A/V, grade submission, etc.)
- Masters or Ph.D. degree in a life sciences discipline is required. In exceptional cases an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject area
- Skill in developing and revising course content
- Recognized leadership or authority on the subject matter
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information
- Highly effective interpersonal skills
- Confidence in the use of instructional technology
- Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) the use of online teaching tools
- RAC certification
- University-level teaching experience (or the corporate equivalent)
- Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance
