UC San Diego’s college system offers undergraduates a living and learning community that mirrors a smaller liberal arts college while providing the benefits of a large research university. Each of the eight colleges has its own academic program through which students fulfill the university’s writing requirements and serve as the academic manifestation of each college’s mission and educational philosophy. All programs aim to help students develop core competencies in written communication, oral communication, critical thinking, and information literacy.

These non‑tenure‑track lecturer positions are eligible for continuing status after 18 successful quarters of teaching and are full‑time/annual. Lecturers teach writing and course content in seminar‐style classes and assess student work. Applicants may rank preferred colleges in their cover letter; appointment will be to one college.

Eighth College (theme: Engagement & Community) will matriculate its first cohort of students in Fall 2023. Its academic mission focuses on critical community engagement in addressing structural racism, encouraging interdisciplinary inquiry, critical thinking, and multifaceted community interaction.

The Seventh College Synthesis Programs offer an equity‑minded curriculum that challenges students to rethink their reading, writing, listening, and research practices to develop rhetorical awareness and engage with questions related to the climate crisis and other planetary issues. It encompasses a two‑course writing intensive sequence and an upper‑division project‑based course, each with its own instructor and theme, often collaborating with campus and community partners.

The Warren College Writing Program aligns its curriculum with the college’s namesake, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren, and its motto, "A life in balance." Classes emphasize problem‑based pedagogy, self‑reflection, and clear, effective, compassionate communication to diverse audiences about solutions to restore balance and equity.

The Making of the Modern World (MMW) is an interdisciplinary general‑education sequence that provides a broad understanding of the global past and its connections to the present, from human origins to the contemporary era. It strengthens analytical and writing skills through a multi‑course sequence, including experiential options such as MMW Global Seminars abroad and MMW California Seminars s position requires experience teaching MMW‑related curriculum, especially in large lecture settings, and mentoring graduate teaching assistants.

The Humanities Program in Revelle College offers five interdisciplinary, chronologically‑arranged courses in Western humanistic tradition, emphasizing critical thinking and persuasive writing. Lecturers teach both lower‑division sequence (HUM 1‑5) and the upper‑division writing course (HUM 100), which is a small seminar‑style class.

• Applicants must hold an MS or MA degree or be on track to graduate by May 2026 in fields such as Composition, Rhetoric, Writing Studies, English, Literature, History, Ethnic Studies, or a related field.
• At least one year of teaching experience.

MS or MA required at time of start for the 2026‑2027 Academic Year, which begins July 1, 2026.
