Position and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Director of the Fire Academy, the Fire Technology Instructor will provide instruction in Fire Technology in various settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online, or off-campus, and in large group instruction as needed. The instructor will be responsible for:

  • Providing academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses.
  • Assessing and developing cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking through assignments in one-on-one, classroom, and distance learning settings.
  • Advising and instructing students regarding programs of study, other higher education institutions, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills.
  • Assessing student learning outcomes to improve student learning.
  • Referencing students to support services and resources as appropriate.
  • Observing and evaluating student performance in meeting course objectives and outcomes.
  • Providing timely feedback to student inquiries in class, online, or during office hours.
  • Planning instruction according to approved course outlines and outcomes to maximize learning.
  • Maintaining current records of enrollment, attendance, progress, curriculum, and outcomes.
  • Submitting data and reports related to course and student progress timely.
  • Maintaining professional conduct and currency in teaching fire technology.
  • Communicating effectively with students and staff and maintaining working relationships.
  • Evaluating and selecting instructional materials in collaboration with discipline faculty.
  • Ordering instructional materials as per campus procedures to ensure timely delivery.
  • Revising and updating course content with new theory and industry developments.
  • Evaluating student progress through various assessments in alignment with course objectives.
  • Providing syllabi to students and collaborating with faculty on measurable outcomes for curriculum and program development.
