Rady Children's Hospital Medical Behavioral Unit Physician

3020 Children's Way, San Diego, CA 92123, United States

DESCRIPTION

THE DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Medicine, Medical Behavioral Unit is seeking clinicians to provide inpatient care in the Medical Behavioral (Eating Disorder) Unit at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.

UCSD/Rady Children’s Health Medical Behavioral Unit (MBU) provides evidence‑based, trauma‑informed, culturally aware, and confidential care for children, adolescents and young adults up to age 26 years. The inpatient Medical Behavioral Unit (MBU) is primarily focused on medical stabilization of youth and young adults with eating disorders and nutrition‑related conditions, including severe malnutrition. We provide high‑level care with a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, dietitians, and behaviorally trained nurses.

The MBU is a major national referral center and works closely with the UC San Diego Eating Disorder Treatment Center, where intensive outpatient treatment is provided and clinical trials are being conducted. Our team of physicians work closely with psychologists, who are on the unit 10 hrs/day, 7 days/week to care for youth with chronic and complex nutrition‑related conditions and co‑morbidity with behavioral or psychiatric conditions.

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be board certified/eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics or Internal Medicine. They must also have or be eligible for a California medical license as determined by the California Medical Board. The department has a strong commitment to clinical care and teaching. Assignments will also include supervising and educating residents and fellows in training, participation in division meetings, program planning, and development of provider and patient education information.

Research opportunities are also available and highly encouraged. Candidates must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call and locations based on the 24‑hour business needs.

Preferred qualifications for this position include physicians with training in Pediatrics, Med‑Peds, Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, or Hospital Medicine, and a proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines. The preferred candidates will be physicians with strong clinical skills and interest in medical student/resident education and teaching. Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages is highly desired but not required.

UC San Diego Health provides a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits and access to all the research and academic capabilities of the University. Additionally, you and your family will enjoy all the beauty, culture, recreation and outdoor amenities of the San Diego region!
