Overview
The Senior Architect will lead project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of project types including corporate, healthcare, sport venues, data centers, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The Senior Architect will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting architectural plans according to budget constraints, environmental factors or client needs.
Responsibilities- Lead architectural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements set forth by the project managers.
- Develop, modify, and review production drawings for healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, and governmental and military facilities.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used architectural concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the architectural industry. Compile studies and reports. Write specifications.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects, identify and develop non-standard design solutions.
- Perform quality reviews of production drawings for a variety of projects to verify design compliance with project, client, and industry standards, including constructability.
- Coordinate construction administration with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of materials.
- Lead field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Ensure customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify, lead and manage key pursuits.
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve targets and standards for financial performance.
- Prepare, present and manage project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the architectural practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
- Responsible for QA/QC process adherence and for effective communication with other architectural teams.
- Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor Degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program and 8 years related experience
- Master Degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program and 7 years related experience
- Minimum eight years of architectural experience preferred
- Portfolio demonstrating design and graphic presentation skills is preferred
- Expert knowledge of standard architectural concepts, including building codes, ADA standards, exterior envelope design, technical detailing, and specification writing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills
- Expert software and computer skills preferred, including BIM (Revit), Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D rendering software
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, and organization
- Experience in leading design teams for large, complex projects, delegating tasks, and guiding internal and client groups towards successful design outcomes
- Ability to conduct detailed quality reviews of architectural documents
- Experience with construction phase activities, including site visits, shop drawing review, and correspondence with contractors and client
- Ability to travel
- Registered Architect preferred
- Experience mentoring junior staff and overseeing architectural deliverables
- Active Registered Architect license in the State of California, or the ability to obtain California licensure within six months of hire
