Arcadis is seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Construction Manager
, with 5–10 years' experience, to join our Water Business Line – Construction Management team out of our San Diego, CA Area. This is an exciting opportunity for a self‑motivated individual to join our team locally with support from one of the best‑qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. The Construction Manager, with the support of a strong nationally recognised technical staff, will utilise their expertise and technical knowledge of construction inspection, construction field management, QA/QC and report documentation on various construction and/or reconstruction projects for municipal water and wastewater treatment, power generation, manufacturing facilities or other heavy construction projects.
The Construction Manager will report to the Senior Construction Manager and/or Project Manager and provide regular updates on daily construction activities for their area of oversight.
The Water/Wastewater Project Construction Manager is responsible for observing and inspecting construction activities performed by contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements. This includes conducting punch‑list inspections, reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical documents, and preparing detailed daily activity and progress reports. The role also supports project schedule reviews and contractor invoice evaluations.
This position upholds all quality‑assurance standards and monitors compliance with applicable codes. The manager identifies deviations from contract documents and communicates required corrections clearly and professionally to contractors.
- Review submittals and construction documentation, provide technical recommendations, and regularly participate in construction, safety, and site‑coordination meetings.
- Monitor and document contractor resource use—such as labour, materials, and equipment—for field changes and time‑and‑material work, and assist with negotiating basic construction changes.
- Verify installation of equipment and materials for payment, maintain accurate payment‑quantity documentation, and perform necessary mathematical calculations during inspections.
- Conduct daily site inspections to ensure adherence to Arcadis' project safety guidelines and coordinate special or material testing inspections as required.
The role requires strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to analyse and organise large volumes of data. It also demands proven problem‑solving capabilities, including identifying issues, evaluating options, and developing innovative solutions, supported by a high level of mathematical aptitude. Candidates must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and demonstrate solid time‑management skills.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook—is essential. The position involves year‑round fieldwork in various weather conditions, potentially hazardous environments, and different shift schedules. The role also requires the physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications & ExperienceRequired Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of civil/utility field construction experience.
- Experience with civil construction inspection activities on small to larger‑sized heavy civil construction such as projects Parks and Facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management.
- General Contractor experience.
- OSHA 10 Safety and Confined Space Entry Training.
- CCM (Certified Construction Manager).
