We are a small but rapidly growing heavy civil construction company based in Chula Vista, CA. Our team delivers high-quality infrastructure projects throughout Southern California, specializing in earthwork, utilities, concrete, and public works construction. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Senior Project Engineer who is ready to take on increased responsibility and play a key role in the successful execution of our projects.
Position OverviewThe Senior Project Engineer will support Project Managers and Superintendents in the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with field teams, subcontractors, and owners. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and interested in long‑term growth within a company.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and cost control
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents for constructability and compliance
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Coordinate with field staff to ensure work is performed per plans and schedule
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating and job cost tracking
- Maintain project logs, reports, and as‑built documentation
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and owners
- Support project closeout activities, including punch lists and final documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (public works preferred)
- Strong understanding of earthwork, utilities, concrete, and grading operations
- Proficiency with construction software (e.g., P6, Bluebeam, MS Excel, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work both in the office and in the field as required
