Summary
Our client is a leading commercial GC in California and Washington and they are seeking a Commercial Construction Estimator for their San Diego, CA location. An Estimator by trade prepares/coordinates preparation of full estimates on conceptual or large work. This individual will provide complete conceptual and final estimating input on CM or complete total bid price for GC work. They will deal with owners, A/E's and contractors to resolve technical and/or value engineering matters during negotiation and contract execution.
Additionally, they will perform all functions and responsibilities in consonance with company's values and beliefs and in alignment with the company's mission.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather information and develop accurate estimates.
- Prepare and present cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and other costs.
- Review and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Conduct risk analysis and develop contingency plans for potential project challenges.
- Maintain and update cost databases and historical cost records.
- Provide input on value engineering and cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation of project budgets and schedules.
- Monitor project costs during construction to ensure adherence to budget.
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, and construction methods.
- Mentor and train junior estimators, providing guidance and support.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in [insert specific industry or type of construction].
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and cost factors.
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Pro Est, Sage Estimating) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional certification (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator, AACE Certification) is a plus.
