Director of Business Development OverviewMicrobiologics’ Director of Business Development will lead expansion efforts across the U.S. and EU marketplace, with a strategic, results-driven focus and strong track record in biotech, diagnostics, and CRO laboratory service sales.
PositionReporting to the Senior Vice President & General Manager of Services, the Director of Business Development is responsible for leading expansion efforts across U.S. and EU markets.
Key Responsibilities- Drive the development and execution of business development strategies within the U.S. and EU markets.
- Identify, establish, and expand relationships with key corporate accounts for direct product and service sales in biopharma, diagnostics, food, medical device, and cosmetic laboratory sectors.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing sales team to achieve revenue targets, focusing on key account management methodology.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments to align sales initiatives with broader business goals, marketing, and operations.
- Support company-wide strategic account planning, sales protocols, and process improvement.
- Ensure strict adherence to regulatory mandates, maintaining compliance with national and international standards.
- Represent the company professionally, providing exceptional customer service at all client levels.
The Director of Business Development will bring at least 10+ years of progressive experience in life science, CRO, medical device, or related services, with a background in virology, biotechnology science, pharmaceuticals, or cosmetic lab services preferred. Government or federal sales experience is also preferred, along with knowledge of FDA, GMP, ISO, or other regulatory frameworks.
Key qualifications include:
- Proven commercial and sales experience in the biotech industry.
- Success leading sales teams in fast-paced environments.
- Experience selling high-value CRO laboratory services or OEM partnerships.
- Deep understanding of the full sales process from lead generation to contract execution.
- Strong customer relationship management and negotiation skills.

Hybrid model with time at San Diego, California;
Kalamazoo, Michigan; or St. Cloud, Minnesota offices. Up to 40% travel required.
Competitive base salary $155,000 to $185,000, annual bonus, and long-term incentives including a Stock Appreciation Rights program.
