The Opportunity
Our State Health Transformation team is expanding. We seek a business development professional experienced in state and local government health‑care procurement to research, track, and pursue opportunities. The role involves working closely with state health and business development teams to manage relationships with procurement offices and agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic and tactical business development plans to drive profitable revenue growth over a 1-3+ year horizon.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with key decision‑makers in state procurement offices, governmental agencies, and public institutions.
- Maintain robust tracking via CRM of relationship‑building activities with decision‑makers and influencers.
- Drive and manage opportunities from identification to qualification, proposal, and close.
- Partner with State Health leadership to shape strategies, strengthen pipelines, and drive growth.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to inform strategies.
- Collaborate with Manatt Health and firm‑wide marketing and communications teams to ensure State Health experience and capabilities are leveraged in proposals and marketing.
- Provide regular updates on state priorities, procurement activity, and legislative or policy developments to leadership.
- Build and sustain relationships with state and local health government procurement offices, including contract managers and chief procurement officers.
- Collaborate with engagement management, marketing, business development, competitive intelligence, risk management, and practice management teams to support client engagements.
- Support proposal teams to develop winning strategies and solutions.
- Contribute to go/no-go decisions, balancing financial, competitive, and performance risk.
- Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Leverage deep understanding of Manatt’s Health services to articulate tailored solutions.
- Represent Manatt at conferences, policy forums, and external events.
- Monitor and report on industry trends, policy changes, and competitor activities.
- Maintain accurate client, pipeline, and forecasting data aligned with state budget and procurement cycles.
- Anticipate re-procurement opportunities and develop retention strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare regular business development reports and insights for leadership.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of experience in business consulting, accounting, or legal firms, focusing on state and local government clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public health, law, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience with state and local procurement offices preferred.
- Strong understanding of state health‑care policy and funding mechanisms.
- Expertise in the state health proposal process.
- Excellent spoken, written, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills.
- Experience with CRM software and data analytics tools such as Salesforce, Hub Spot, and Client Sense.
- Forward‑thinking, results‑oriented strategic thinker and self‑starter.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong project and process management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
- Proven team‑leading experience driving high‑performance collaboration.
- Positive, can‑do energy and strong accountability.
- Availability to work in‑office three days per week (Tue‑Thu) with willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
