At Clearway, we care deeply about our relationship with the communities that host our plants. We’re seeking a Community Affairs Manager to help us maintain and grow those relationships in California and Nevada. The successful candidate will have the ability to foster positive relationships with a wide range of individuals and organizations, an understanding of the cultural and political landscape of the Western U.S., and excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills.
Reporting to the head of Clearway’s External Affairs function in the West, the candidate will be the principal ambassador for the organization in the region, supporting a large portfolio of projects in operations and development.
- Be an ambassador for Clearway across California and Nevada (primarily the Central Valley, Southern California, and Southern Nevada), with responsibility for shaping and implementing the company’s vision within local communities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local government officials, labor unions, business organizations, advocacy organizations, tribal governments, and other project stakeholders.
- Participate in advocacy and engagement efforts with state and local elected officials and agencies to support project permitting and state and local policy priorities.
- Maintain strong relationships within the company, including with plant managers and technicians, construction managers, and project developers, as well as with key project stakeholders such as landowners.
- Cultivate community partnerships and develop and implement community benefit plans, in collaboration with local site teams and project developers.
- Organize open houses, tours, and other events to build goodwill and share information with the community.
- Represent Clearway at relevant local events and activities.
- Craft effective messaging and develop communications materials, including social media posts, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, op-eds, and more.
- Respond to inquiries from community members and other interested parties when needed.
- Manage social media content plans and virtual groups to enhance the online profile of the company. Create and maintain a contact database.
- A self-starter with strong communication, active listening, problem solving, and interpersonal skills; able to work well as part of a team and handle sensitive or controversial subjects with tact and professionalism.
- Strong and deep connections in California and/or Nevada, with a preference for experience in the Central Valley or inland Southern California.
- 4+ years of work experience in public relations, community organizing, campaigns, lobbying/government affairs, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in government, communications, journalism, or a related field OR an additional 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Proven success in engaging with elected officials, policymakers, the media, the public, and local residents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Valid driver’s license, transportation, and willingness to travel frequently across the region.
- Experience with customer relationship management tools such as Borealis and Salesforce.
- Experience in the energy industry and familiarity with clean energy policies, regulations, and permitting processes.

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.
Salary Range Across all U.S. Locations
$125,000 - $160,000 USD
