This position will lead strategic procurement initiatives and create long‑term cost containment strategies with key suppliers in the chemicals/reagents markets supporting objectives established by North American Purchasing, Key Functions and Americas Site Operations. It is also responsible for leading purchasing activities of indirect and direct goods and services at WuXi App Tec’s San Diego site, maintaining and improving purchasing policies, practices and procedures for both direct and indirect expenses, sourcing and contract negotiation duties.
Responsibilities- Build and develop a committed site purchasing team and site maintenance team to manage all areas of responsibility applicable to WuXi App Tec’s San Diego site purchasing.
- Create and direct global procurement strategies for specific reagent and chemical category spend, including identification of suppliers for strategic alliances and understanding key cost drivers.
- Develop, establish, and coordinate RFPs (Request for Proposals) on major direct and indirect spending categories, invite key/core suppliers, evaluate proposals, recommend suppliers, award business, and handle contracts for key stakeholders.
- Develop and drive cost‑saving goals for each category at both location and corporate‑wide levels through category strategy development and implementation.
- Leverage and negotiate pricing on combined purchase volumes at various locations with industry‑leading suppliers to reduce the cost of goods and overheads, prioritize savings opportunities, and adopt a unified approach with purchasing locations to secure the lowest possible total cost.
- Support other site departments, such as Maintenance, as needed.
- BA/BS in Business, Finance, Engineering, Procurement or related field;
Graduate Degree in Business preferred. APICS, CPM, and/or NAPM certificate. - 5+ years of direct and/or indirect procurement experience; 2+ years at a managerial level in global operations, finance, and matrix management.
- Ability to balance strong negotiation skills with shareholder needs while developing strong relationships with key suppliers.
- Strong financial skills and ability to market the Global Procurement team within the organization.
- 10‑20 % domestic travel.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in both English.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach.
- Ability to travel via plane or train.
Anticipated base pay range: $91,300 to $118,459
