Description

The Executive Advisor, Health System Funds Flow provides financial guidance and decision‑making on behalf of Health leadership regarding funds flow structures and financial arrangements between the health system entities and the School of Medicine. The Advisor reviews existing structures, identifies adjustments for the annual budget, documents and manages Memoranda of Understanding, collaborates with financial leadership on short‑ and long‑range projections, and supports analytics and communication materials.

The Advisor may lead independent programs and manage professional staff across various administrative functions to support funds flow initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with high-level stakeholders—including School of Medicine Business Officers, faculty leaders, committee chairs, senior administrators, and other UC locations—to develop solutions to complex problems and provide briefings on key issues.
  • Represent the Chief of Staff on high‑level task forces and long‑ and short‑range financial planning groups.
  • Establish collaborative partnerships with School of Medicine Business Officers across all departments and operational leadership across the Health System.
  • Handle highly complex and critical projects, leading projects that require facilitation and collaboration across organizational functions.
  • Provide high‑level analyses on a broad range of issues, including new financial arrangements.
  • Acculturate new leaders in financial structures, methodologies, resources, tools, and processes.
  • Participate in the development of the annual funds flow budget to Health Sciences as an advisor; determine expense priorities and recommend changes to methods, unit planning, staffing, programs, and other financial activities.
  • Provide a framework for changes to financial structures and funds flows, developing strategies for change management to remove barriers and achieve goals.
  • Stay well‑informed and keep abreast of key healthcare trends and regulatory changes impacting financials, and current issues in higher education to inform the Chief of Staff and leadership with a broad perspective.
  • Initiate and design studies, summary reports and background materials including approaches, trends, sources and uses, that have a significant impact on individual or multiple departments.
  • Administer small‑to‑mid‑level independent programs, typically with broad and/or organization‑wide impact.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and five or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
  • Senior‑level finance or strategy experience within healthcare or an academic medical center.
  • Substantial experience overseeing and/or negotiating financial arrangements/professional services agreements between physicians and the health system.
  • Successful experience working with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Solid business acumen and analytical skills, including an understanding of academic medicine, and demonstrated experience developing and implementing operating plans and analyzing financial and quality data.
  • Ability to accomplish results and effectively integrate functions with business plans.
