General

Summary

Responsible for managing global sourcing activities for Petco’s owned‑brand products. Identifies and executes cost savings opportunities and negotiates with vendors on product availability and price. Manages execution of SKU set‑ups and onboarding of suppliers. Sources many product types in many countries to add value to the business through speed to market, flexibility, best cost and sustainability.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Initiates and facilitates competitive bids, request for quotes (RFQs), negotiations, and resourcing activities to provide vendor matrix options that drive category growth, flexibility, speed to market and profitability.
  • Develops and distributes financial models and reports to monitor and improve profitability and mitigate financial risk.
  • Provides guidance on financial goals to cross‑functional team members and others at the start of new product development cycles.
  • Develops and provides options on product costs to product development and design staff, and merchandising staff.
  • Develops short‑ and long‑term production and financial plans to support strategic business goals.
  • Partners with inventory, merchandising and planning staff to align business needs with vendor capacity and ensure on‑time and in‑full delivery.
  • Studies product roadmap, development strategy and innovation needs, and develops vendor matrix strategies to provide options that deliver on business goals.
  • Evaluates vendors based on qualitative and quantitative data (e.g., performance, quality, pricing, service, etc.) and reviews data with the vendors and internal teams. Establishes goals for vendor improvement and matrix optimization. Performs analyses to allow for objective decision making, including total cost of ownership (TCO) opportunities.
  • Manages vetting and onboarding of new vendors, including negotiating contract terms, supervising initial product development timing, cost engineering, test runs and production to achieve on‑time delivery.
  • Partners with domestic and international transportation and logistics providers, and vendors to optimize freight costs for products. Researches, analyzes, monitors and reports on changes in macroeconomic conditions, cost components and raw material fluctuations, and industry trends. Recommends and implements strategies to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate operational and financial risk.
  • Recommends and implements sourcing policies, business processes and systems to scale efficiently and drive value, sales and profits.
  • Manages SKU set‑up and implementation for both new and existing vendors. Responsible for initiating vendor set‑ups in internal systems to ensure appropriate onboarding and maintenance.
  • Responsible for keeping the supplier’s database updated as a source of information for the sourcing team.
  • Troubleshoots incongruencies in data between Petco and the vendors (i.e., cost discrepancies).
  • Runs ad hoc reporting to support business needs in varying magnitudes of complexity.
  • Identifies and drives sustainability initiatives within owned‑brand products, supply chain, manufacturing practices and packaging.
